The traffic Light of nutrition
CREATING A HEALTHY
MENU FOR THE CANTEEN
The best way
to classify food according to its nutritional value is thinking in a traffic
light.
Red is STOP. This is food you must never eat at school. This has very little nutritional value, for instance,
candy, potato chips, cookies, cakes, chocolate and drinks like soda.
Yellow is CAUTION. This food is OK but not the best-things like gelatin,
pizza, some meal like hamburguers and hot dogs (without ketchup). To drink, you can have juice, but don´t have
them too much because it has a lot of sugar.
You can also have cheese and other dairy products.
Green is GO. This is perfect food for schools menus, like bread and pasta,
fruit, fish, soup, eggs and lots of vegetables, such as salads. Low-fat dairy products are ok as well. And to drink? What´s wrong with water.
